ever hear of these folks

the juan de la cruz band - wiki'd
their fan club

you can even do an allmusic search if you want to hear for yourself -- there are 30 second clips available for every song from their up in arms LP (1971). i came across this a couple years back, and when i first saw the cover i thought the shit was so fuckin RAD. the music tends to echo the sensibility of other (read: white) psych-folk-rock outfits of the era (think procol harum, traffic, creedence clearwater revival, etc.) and if the title doesn't hint at it, one should know that the band was well-attuned to the highly charged, youth-driven political climate that, in part, drove the marcos dictatorship to declare martial law. don't sound too bad neither.

anyway - right now i'm downloading their himig natin lp (1973) off soulseek. i'll post up some more shit after i give it listening time. but it figures to sound TIDNITE!!!

ps - i'm also looking for music from the vanishing tribe. they scored bernal's film manila by night. sounds like old dusty funk. i think the homie daps got a couple records by them. pray to god!

(!)

oh man, the POWER, i feel it coursing

check this shit out though:

ian casocot
panitikan

in case you suspect i'm linking you to porn, let me ease your doubts with the reassurance that they are for filipino/filipino-american literary reference: ian casocot is a poet/essayist and the term 'panitikan' is tagalog for 'literature.' on the sidebar of casocot's blog, you'll actually find a comprehensive directory for filipino writers entitled "a survey of philippine literature." these two links come courtesy professor benitez. i'll post some other relevant links as well as names, soon as i finish reading some stuff and become a better person

take care
